Today is Narada Jayanti, i.e. 5th of May, the next day to thithi of Buddha Purnima or Vaisakha Bahula Purnima. Naradha is also known as Devamaharshi. Narada Maharshi is a great devotee of Lord Vishnu that’s why Narada Jayanti is observed in all Maha Vishnu Temples. Narada Maharshi’s birth anniversary is mostly celebrated in the northern parts of India. Puranas say that Narad is the son of Kashyapa Maharishi and some believe he appeared from the forehead of Lord Brahma. Devamaharshi is one of the prajapatis and he is also one among the seven honorable rishis. Legends says Sage Narada is the inventor musical instrument Veena. He was also the chief of the Gandharvas who were a group of Divine musicians.
Sage Narad was believed as the modern day journalist and mass communicator. He travels the world continuously to spreads the news by singing and communicating information. Narada Jayanti day is also known as Patrakar Diwas (Press day) and this day is celebrated in the form of meetings, seminars and prayers especially in North India.
