Vaikuntha Ekadashi is one of the important festivals celebrated in Sri Vishnu temples, especially in South India, Apart from being an Ekadashi, this day also commemorates the attainment of Vaikuntha, the spiritual kingdom of Sri Vishnu by Nammalwar, a great devotee in the Sri Vaishnava sampradaya.
This festival occurs in Dhanurmasam (December-January). The Vaikunda Ekadesi Festival is celebrated in a grand manner in Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple, Srirangam Sri Ranganatha temple and Bhadrachalam Sita Ramachandraswamy temples. In Kerala Vaikuntha Ekadashi is known as Swarga Vathil Ekadashi. This Ekadasi is also known as Mukkoti Ekadasi.
Vaikunta Ekadasi is the most revered festival celebrated in Tirumala Hills by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, which is an incredible grandeur and also with very good arrangements. Every year, thousands of pilgrims visit the temple on this auspicious day to have Lord Sri Venkateswara’s darshan. In addition, the Dwaram Vaikunta (door) located in the Tirumala Temple will open this day only for pilgrims.
Tirumala Vaikunta Ekadasi 2019 Dates:
Vaikunta Ekadasi does not occur in 2019. In general, Vaikunta Ekadasi occurs in December. But due to calendar timings, Vaikunta Ekadasi does not occur in 2019. Therefore, it occurs twice in 2020.
2020 Tirumala Vaikunta Ekadasi Dates:
First 2020 Vaikunta Ekadasi is on 6 January 2020.
Second 2020 Vaikunta Ekadasi is on 25 December 2020.
On Vaikunta Ekadasi Day all Darshans like Divya Darshan, Special Darshan, Sevas and VIP tickets are cancelled. NO o online booking is available on this day on the TTD website. Only Sarva Darshan will be available on this day.
Entry to the Vaikunta dwarf will be available for only two days. The day of Vaikunta Ekadasi and the next day, day of Vaikunta Dwadashi. Then the pilgrims will have two days to have the darshan of Vaikunta Dwaram.
Ghat Roads remain open on these two days round the clock. Walking Path / Steps Path remains open during the Vaikunta darshan days.
