Vairagya Panchakam Lyrics in Malayalam:
॥ വൈരാഗ്യപഞ്ചകം ॥
ക്ഷോണീ കോണ ശതാംശ പാലന കലാ ദുര്‍വാര ഗര്‍വാനല-
ക്ഷുഭ്യത്ക്ഷുദ്ര നരേന്ദ്ര ചാടു രചനാ ധന്യാന്‍ ന മന്യാമഹേ ।
ദേവം സേവിതുമേവ നിശ്ചിനുമഹേ യോഽസൌ ദയാലുഃ പുരാ
ദാനാ മുഷ്ടിമുചേ കുചേല മുനയേ ദത്തേ സ്മ വിത്തേശതാം ॥ 1 ॥
ശിലം കിമനലം ഭവേദനലമൌദരം ബാധിതും
പയഃ പ്രസൃതി പൂരകം കിമു ന ധാരകം സാരസം ।
അയത്ന മല മല്ലകം പഥി പടച്ചരം കച്ചരം
ഭജന്തി വിബുധാ മുധാ ഹ്യഹഹ കുക്ഷിതഃ കുക്ഷിതഃ ॥ 2 ॥
ജ്വലതു ജലധി ക്രോഡ ക്രീഡത്കൃപീഡ ഭവ പ്രഭാ-
പ്രതിഭട പടു ജ്വാലാ മാലാകുലോ ജഠരാനലഃ ।
തൃണമപി വയം സായം സംഫുല്ല മല്ലി മതല്ലികാ
പരിമലമുചാ വാചാ യാചാമഹേ ന മഹീശ്വരാന്‍ ॥ 3 ॥
ദുരീശ്വര ദ്വാര ബഹിര്‍വിതര്‍ദികാ-
ദുരാസികായൈ രചിതോഽയമഞ്ജലിഃ ।
യദഞ്ജനാഭം നിരപായമസ്തി മേ
ധനഞ്ജയ സ്യന്ദന ഭൂഷണം ധനം ॥ 4 ॥
ശരീര പതനാവധി പ്രഭു നിഷേവണാപാദനാത്
അബിന്ധന ധനഞ്ജയ പ്രശമദം ധനം ദന്ധനം ।
ധനഞ്ജയ വിവര്‍ധനം ധനമുദൂഢ ഗോവര്‍ധനം
സുസാധനമബാധനം സുമനസാം സമാരാധനം ॥ 5 ॥
നാസ്തി പിത്രാര്‍ജിതം കിഞ്ചിന്ന മയാ കിഞ്ചിദാര്‍ജിതം ।
അസ്തി മേ ഹസ്തി ശൈലാഗ്രേ വസ്തു പൈതാമഹം ധനം ॥ 6 ॥
॥ ഇതി വേദാന്ത ദേശികേന രചിതം വൈരഗ്യപംചകം സമ്പൂര്‍ണം ॥
Vairagya Panchakam Lyrics Meaning:
The pride of those kings who rule bits of this earth grows like the wildfire,
And there are people, who praise them and think they are blessed,
But we think that service to god who is merciful will give us all our wants,
For did not sage Kuchela meet the Lord, with a fistful of pounded rice and become wealthy. || 1 ||
Even learned scholars pray the kings for filling their stomach,
Is not the spilled grain after a harvest sufficient for their needs?
Is not a palm-full of water sufficient to quench one’s thirst?
Is not the effortlessly collected cloth sufficient for a loincloth? || 2 ||
Even if the fire in my stomach burns intensely,
And equals the raging fire in the mid of ocean,
I will not ask even for a speck of dust from the king,
For my speech having the fragrance of jasmine flowers
Which open in the evening are reserved for our great Lord. || 3 ||
When I have the decorative black colored wealth,
Who sat in front of Arjuna in the battlefield,
Why should I sit in the periphery of the gate of kings,
And beg them for perishable wealth with hands held in salutation? || 4 ||
Wealth got by serving the rich till one’s body falls to the ground,
Is that wealth which will quell one’s hunger but is sorrow causing,
On the other hand, that wealth which made Arjuna great,
That wealth which made it possible to lift Govardhana and that which fills ones,
Mind with joy is the real good wealth, which one should possess. || 5 ||
I do not have any inherited wealth,
Nor have I earned any wealth,
But Brahma, the grandfather,
Has given to me as wealth, my Lord,
Who lives on the top of the Hasthi mountain*.

Salutations to Venkatesa who is the great teacher of Vedantha,
Who is a lion in the debates among poets,
And posses all good qualities.
