Vemulawada Rajarajeshwara Swamy Temple or Vemulawada Rajanna Temple or Sri Raja Rajeshwara Kshetram is one of the most famous temple situated at the center of the town on a small hill in Vemulawada, Rajanna Siricilla District, Telangana State. It is believed that if one pulls a bull around the temple, his wishes will be granted. The shrine has a sacred tank called Dharma Gundam, the waters of the tank are said to have medicinal properties.
The presiding deity, Lord Raja Rajeshwara Swamy in the form of “Neela Lohitha Siva Lingam, is known for his unlimited benevolence in fulfilling the wishes of devotees. There are 3 main shrines for Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Vinayaka Swamy. They are known as Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy, Shri Raja Rajeshwari Devi and Sri Laxmi Sahitha Siddi Vinayaka.
This shrine is popularly known as “Dakshina Kasi” and also as “Harihara Kshetram” for being two Vaisnava temples in the main temple complex, namely Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple and Sri Seetharama Chandra Swamy and Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple is Kesthra Palaka of this temple. Both Shaivites and Vaishnavites festivals are celebrated here. After Shivaratri, Sreerama Navami is the second main festival celebrated in this temple.
It is believed that worshiping the deity in this temple will be blessed with a child. Devotees visit this temple with Kode after their wish is granted. Laddu Bhogam, Sira Bhogam, Pulihora Bhogam and Daddojanam are the prasad offered.
Vemulawada Rajarajeshwara Temple History:
Bhavishyothara Purana mentions that Surya Bhagavan recovered from his disability by praying at the shrine here, that is why this shrine is called “Bhaskara Kshethram”. And Indra, the king of Astadikpalaka, devoutly worshiping Lord Sri Raja Rajeshwara, the deity who presides over the shrine, purified himself from Brahmahatya Dosham.
In addition, it is said that during AD 750-973. This temple was built by Raja Narendra-the grandson of Parikshit who in turn the grandson of Arjuna, was not only cured of Leprosy by which he was afflicted by virtue of killing Muniputra accidentally, by taking bath in Dharmagundam [Pushkarni] but also seen Lord Sri Raja Rajeshwara and Goddess Sri Raja Rajehwari Devi in a vision and received blessings with directions to build a temple and install ‘ Siva Lingam’ which was laying in the bed of the Pushkarni.
Rajarajeshwara Temple Specialty:
Along with the Vaishnava temples, it also has a mosque on its premises. The mosque had been constructed by a Muslim disciple of Lord Shiva. This mosque has been there for the last 400 years. The temple premises also displays Buddhist and Jain sculptures and inscriptions. The temple also attracts devotees of Buddhist and Jain faiths. The temple is hence so famous for encouraging religious harmony among the various religions.
