People belonging to Jain community observe Mahavir Jayanti as birth anniversary of sage Mahavir. Mahavir, also known as Vardhamana, was the 24th and the last Tirthankar of Jainism who established the belief system of Jainism.
Mahavir was born on Trayodashi Tithi during Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month, which was the thirteenth day of the rising moon of Chaitra month. Mahavir was born at Kundalagrama in Vaishali district of Bihar in 599 B.C. and he left this world in 527 B.C. at the age of 72.
