Mylapore Sri Madhava Perumal Temple History:
Sage Bhrigu to test Sri Vishnu’s composure kicked the Lord in his chest. Mahalakshmi, angry about it, left the Lord. To find a solution to this serious error, the sage Bhrigu made Tapasya while praying to have Mahalakshmi as a daughter. Mahalakshmi manifested as a child at theertham here. Since Lakshmi came out of the ocean of milk which was churned to obtain “amutham” (nectar), the sage called her “Amirthavalli” and raised her. When she reached marriageable age, she asked Lord Vishnu to marry her. The Lord came here and married her and the Divine couple stayed here at the request of sage Bhrigu.
