Books Distribution
ISKCON’s founder-acharya A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami greatly emphasized the distribution of spiritual literature such as Bhagavad-gita, Srimad Bhagavatam and several other Vedic scriptures. The Sankirtan Department at ISKCON Udhampur aims to distribute Vedic literature and books written or translated by Srila Prabhupada since 1978. Access to scriptures is necessary to follow instructions in the scriptures, engage in devotional service (bhakti) and thereby attain eternal peace and happiness.

A team of devotees at the Sankirtan Department distribute books through various channels:

1) Gokul Gift Shops: Pilgrims visit ISKCON Udhampur daily and get an opportunity to have a look at Srila Prabhupada’s books displayed at the Gokul Gift Shop in Temple and one near Govinda Restaurant. There one will find all of the books written or translated by Srila Prabhupada in nearly all major Indian languages.

2) Travelling Sankirtan Party: Devotees very enthusiastically approach the public & inspire then to take this valuable knowledge. There is very good response. Yes this does involve certain hardships which our devotees joyfully accept being very eager to provide these great books of knowledge to one & all.

One can visit ISKCON Udhampur book stall to purchase spiritual literature like Bhagavad-gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, etc. For more information about the Sankirtan Department, to gift such literature to friends or family or to donate towards distribution of spiritual books kindly contact Achyut Rai Das at 09858269939.

Food For Life:
“No one within ten miles of a temple should go hungry…”

In 1974, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, shocked and saddened upon seeing a group of village children in Mayapur (near Kolkata) fighting with street dogs over scraps of food, told his disciples: “No one within ten miles of a temple should go hungry . . . I want you to immediately begin serving food.” Heeding to Prabhupada plea, ISKCON devotees around the world were inspired to expand that original effort into a global network.

In the 1970’s, ISKCON expanded its vision of prasad distribution and developed the Food for Life program to target food distribution to the less fortunate. In many cities special food distribution vehicles were purchased and daily delivery routes to low-income areas began.

We at HKFFL, Udhampur emphasize the importance of providing healthy, hygienic and nutritious food. Udhampur is a small town in the hills of J & K. Nearby areas are very poor and people can hardly get any nutritious food. During our free medical camps, realizing this fact, Chairman of the trust, H.H. Nava Yogendra swami ji Maharaj decided and announced that we would provide free nutritious meals for everyone (including patients, their relatives and mass public) after each camp. To alleviate any disease, only medication is not enough. A healthy nutritious diet is also necessary. In fact, some diseases can be cured by a healthy diet alone.

Keeping these points in mind, we at HKFFL, Udhampur organize regular Food for Life programs for the benefit of the masses.

Besides this other food for life program organized by HKFFL Udhampur are as:-
Food distributed at earthquake relief in 2005 at POK – 1000 people
At Allahabad Kumbh Mela 2007 – 25,000 people
At Haridwar Kumbh Mela 2010 – 10,000 people
During Free Medical Camps – 7,000 people
During Purushottam month bhandara 2012 – 30,000 people
At Allahabad Kumbh Mela 2013 – 5000 people/ Daily
Srila Prabhupada says, “The Krishna Consciousness movement is based on this principle chant Hare Krishna as much as possible, and distribute prasadam. If we believe that Krishna is providing and maintaining everyone, then why should we be misers? This means losing faith in Krishna , and thinking that we are the doers and suppliers. We are confident that Krishna will supply! Let the whole world come, we can feed them.”

“Simply by liberal distribution of pradasam and sankirtana, the whole world can become peaceful and prosperous.”

ISKCON Youth Forum:
IYF (ISKCON Youth Forum) is a program to serve the needs of present day youth. Youths are in the peak of their lives and have a tremendous enthusiasm for understanding anything which interests them. We encourage youths to achieve the ultimate understanding of life, so that whatever else one may wish to learn or acquire – you can do it with great relish.

IYF is meant to help the youths to attain stability and permanent happiness through the understanding & applying Vedic culture in modern world. All efforts in IYF are directed towards this purpose. We request you to take complete advantage of it.

We help youth achieve this goal by conducting seminars, presentations and group discussions on Bhagavad-Gita and Vedic philosophy and teaching their scientific application in daily lives, we give complete knowledge of the advanced principles of Vedic life. Harmony with nature & divine power of God makes our life meaningful & happy.
