A Special feature in Aadipoora Maha Bramotsavam:
Mahasakthi in the form of Universal Mother is the Cause and Protector of the entire creation and our ancestors have glorified Her prowess. In their sincere efforts to revere Amman, they organized various festivals and attained salvation. Kambam Satruthal is one such ancient festival of great significance. The term “Kambam Satruthal” in Tamil translates as “offerings made on a trident-shaped margosa branch – Vembu”. This festival provides a unique opportunity for everyone in the family and society, both the young and old, to participate together. This emphasises the need to preserve family and community cohesion. Similar to the Pookaragam and Agni Kapparai festivals conducted in honour of the Mother Goddess in several Amman temples in the world, the Vembu Amman festival can be compared to the Fire-Walking festival.
Vembu Amman Festival in Our Temple:
With the eternal grace of our Mother Goddess Sree Maha Mariamman, who resides within the artistically constructed holy abode in Singapore crowned with Her 108 Sakthi Kalasams, this colourful festival is made a part of the Aadipooram Maha Brahmotsavam, which is celebrated as the grandest event in the Calendar of Events of the Temple.
Devotee Offerings and Benefits:
Black Pepper (Milagu) and Salt are the main offerings associated with the Vembu Amman festival. It is believed that the Mother Goddess removes all troubles, ailments, problems, evil effects of jealousy and disappointment of Her devotees. Devotees who participate with sincere faith and discipline enjoy divine blessings and their problems are replaced by happiness, peace and prosperity. Kambam Satruthal (Vembu Amman Festival):
This festival which is performed only in our Temple (other than in certain specialized temple in India) is unique, traditional and very powerful. Devotees can make offerings and perform Abishegam to Vembu Amman with their own hands during this Festival. Devotees can also make offerings of a mixture of salt and pepper (milagu) to seek Vembu Amman’s blessings to protect themselves from evil spirits and to remove illness and mental stress, to have a happy, wealthy and prosperous life. Agni Kapparai:
This is the festival when our Mother Goddess Sree Maha Mariamman assumes the form of the ferocious fire to rid the evil effects in all beings and bless with all goodness.
Tying the Kanganam for Vembu Amman:
Devotees can tie the Kanganams (protection thread) with their own hands around Vembu Amman to seek our Amman’s blessings and protection.
Kambam Punar Pooja (Visarjanam):
The immersion of Vembu Amman in the sea is a ceremonial conclusion of the Vembu Festival.
