The divine presence of the main deity in temple was transferred from the murti worshipped to a Kalasha. This Kalasha is place at the top of the Balalayam. In Sanskrit ‘Baala’ means mini and ‘Aalaya’ means Temple.
During the Jeernodharana (renovation period) of a temple, all the divine Murtis were shifted to the holy waters contained in the Kalasham. Pooja will be done to the Kalashas and Ustava deities.
The Kalashas will stay in a miniature form often known as Balalayam. During this course of the devotees can’t see or perform pooja to the moola vigraham or murtis worshipped in a temple. The scheduled poojas might be performed solely to Utsava deities.
