Appalayagunta Temple History:

According to Hindu Puranas, Sri Venkateswara Swamy married Goddess Padmavati Ammavaru at Narayanavanam and later went up to Tirumala Hill. On the way to Tirumala, Kailasanatha visited the Shiva temple in Kona and blessed the saints there. They continued to Vemula Hill. At Vemula Konda, Sri Venkateswara Swamy made a promise to Siddheshwara Muni to stay there and bless the devotees.

Siddheswara Muni placed the Lord’s idol beneath the hill, built a temple, and named the Lord “Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy.” In this temple, the Lord is in the abhaya hasta pose, which means the Lord is here to protect the devotees. You won’t see the Lord sitting or with abhaya hasta posing with Sri Devi anywhere else. This hidden message tells the devotees that Sri Venkateswara saves those who surrender to him. The temple was constructed in 1232 AD by the King of Karvetinagaram, Sri Venkata Perumalaraju Brahmadeva Maharaj.
