17 April 2015 Guntur: The Celestial Bath-Abhishekam was performed to Srivari replica at police parade grounds in Guntur as part of Venkateswara Vaibhavotsavams on friday.
Important of Abhishekam:
Thomala Sevas and Archana Sevas are performed privately, after these sevas Srivari Abhishekam is performed, no one is allowed to see the sevas. This Arjitha Seva is being observed to the lord for decades.
The Abhishekam to the Lord starts with Sacred water mixed all aromatic holy ingredients, then with Milk, then with Suddhodakam, Chandanam and other scented articles like powdered Pachcha Karpooram, Saffron paste and drops of civet oil etc., which are kept ready before starting the Abhishekam in silver vessels.
The same Abhishekam and arjitha Seva was performed at police parade grounds in Guntur to the lord by the archakas, the local devotees who cherished every moment without blinking their eyes.
While performing Abhishekam to the main deity, Purshasukta, Narayanasukta, Srisukta, Bhusuktha, Neelasuktha and selected Pasurams from the Divya Pradbandham are all recited by the temple priests. The Abhishekam is performed to Goddess Lakshmi image on Lords chest with Turmeric Paste.
Origin of Abhishekam:
In 966A.D. the silver idol of Bhoga Sinivasa Murthy was presented by Samaavai, she is a Queen of Pallava kingdom, The silver idol is a exact miniature replica of the main vigraham of the Lord. The idol was gifted on Jyestha Bahula Tritheeya when Sravana star was in the ascendant in Akshya Year and it was on Friday.
While installing the Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy idol in the Sanctum, an Abhishekam was performed to the main deity also. Thus, started the practice of doing Abhishekam to Moola Virat on every Friday.
