Singaperumal Koil Patalathri Narasimhar Temple Timings, History, Festivals

The Padalathri Narasimhar Temple or Patalathri Narasimha Temple or Ugra Narasimghar Temple also known as Singaperumalkoil Temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha and is located in Singaperumalkoil, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. This temple is built in Rock-cut architecture. Here, Lord Vishnu is worshiped as Narasimha and his wife Lakshmi as Ahobilavalli. The temple was built by the Pallavas in the 8th century.

This temple dates from around 1400 years ago. The specialty of this temple is that the sun rays fall on the feet of Lord Narasimha during the period from December to January This Ugra Narasimgha has a third eye, like Lord Siva, and while making aarthi, the temple priest shows us the third eye of Lord Narasimgh, raising the jeweler Thiruman of the Lord. Lord Narasimgha blessing all his devotees with his abhaya mudra.

Another important aspect of this temple is Pradhakshanam, avoiding the sanctuary of the Lord. Since the Lord’s sanctum is inside the cave carved into the rock, devotees have to surround the small hill, with convenient steps up and down, which makes pradhakshanam easier. There is a Parijatham tree on the hill, and anyone’s wish is fulfilled if they tie a knot with yellow thread on the tree.

Singaperumal Padalathri Narasimha History:

Maharshi Jabali carried out an intense penance at this place in search of the darshan of Lord Sri Narasimha. The Lord granted the Rishi his darshan at the Pradosha time. According to the event, Tirumanjanam is executed before the Lord at this time in the time of Pradosha.

The deity who presides over Patalathri Narasimhar adorns the conch and the disc, his lower right hand adorning (abhaya hastha) the devotees and the lower left on his hip. He looks east with his three eyes.

The processional deity Prahladha Varadha is honored by consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi in the form of standing under the Pranavakoti Vimana. As the presiding deity is in the cave temple on the hill, the devotee must also go around the hill during his clockwise walk called Padakshina.
