About Srikalahasti Temple

The Srikalahasti temple is located in Srikalahasti, near tirupati. It is one of the most famous Shiva temples in India and is said to be the site where Kannappa was ready to offer his two eyes to cover the blood that flowed from Siva’s linga before Siva stopped and granted moksha.

Sri Kalahasteeswara temple is famous for its Vayu linga, one of the Panchabhoota Sthalams, representing wind. The temple is also famous for Rahu-Ketu pooja and Kala Sarpa dosha pooja. The inner temple was constructed around the 5th century and the outer temple was constructed in the 11th century by the Rajendra Chola I, later Chola kings and the Vijayanagara kings.
