Polatala Sri Malleshwara Swamy Temple History:
There are several legends associated with the Malleswara Swamy temple at Polathala.
It is believed that while Sri Rama and Lakshmana were searching for Sita they reached this place, took bath in the Koneru River and had the divine darshan of Lord Siva who was presided on this hillock.
As per Mahabharata, when the Pandavas were living in the forests during their exile, Arjuna performed Pooja to Sri Malleswara Swamy at this place.
Sivaratri Festival is celebrated in a grand scale at the Malleswara Swamy temple. Mondays and Fridays are considered auspicious days when there will be a large flow of pilgrims to this temple.
Thousands of tourists and pilgrims visit this place during the summer and winter vacations. Located on a beautiful hillock with picturesque surrounding, it attracts all kinds of people who want to relax some time as a relief from their hectic city life.

Polatala Akka Devathalu, famous for Siva Ratri Festival, is located in Polatala, Pendlimarri Mandal, in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. People worship Akka Devalthalu with firm devotion. People afflicted by mental problems or ghost issues visit here with a belief that they will be relieved from their problems.
During the Shivaratri festival, it is estimated that more than 3 lakhs pilgrims visit the temple and stay there the whole night.
How to Reach Polatala:
The temple is located on the hillocks at about 24 km from Kadapa, which includes forest road of 10 km. Direct buses are available from Kadapa to Polatala. The nearest railway station is located at Kadapa.
