Do’s And Don’ts at Sri Kalahasteeswara Swamy Temple SriKalahasti

Sri kalahasti Temple
Uniqueness of Sri Kalahasteeswara Swamy at Sri Kalahasti Temple

  • The Uniqueness of the Idol at Sree Kalahasthi Temple is that Lord Siva manifested here having all the 27 Nakshatras (stars) and 9 Rashis in his Kavacham.
  • Sri Kalahasti temple is the only temple that is kept open during Grahanam (Solar and Lunar Eclipse) also.
  • Even Priests don’t touch the Sivalingam here with hands.

  1. Do not visit Friends and Relatives houses on the way back to your home after Rahu Ketu Pooja or any other pooja.
  2. Pregnant ladies should not perform the Dosha Nivarana poojas in the temple.  Also avoid visiting temple where Dosha Nivarani Poojas are performed.
  3. Do not offer Sastanga Namaskara in any Naga Devatha temple.
  4. Do not visit the Temple with oiled hair.

  1. Take a head bath before performing the pooja.
  2. Females should perform the pooja before or after eight days of Menstruation.

Note: Performing eight consecutive Tuesdays worship of Naga Devathas by offering a Clay lamp flamed with Gingelly oil and on the 9th Tuesday performs Naga Dosha pooja at any temple gives good result for those who suffer with Naga / Sarpa Dosha.

  • Consult a good Astrologer who is experienced in Astrological Science.
  • Ask the Astrologer which day would be auspicious to perform the pooja according to my Janma akshathra and for the Problem, for eg – Financial Problems, Marital status problems, No Baby problem, Jobless etc.

Good result can be obtained if Rahu Ketu Sarpa Dosha Nivarani pooja is performed twice in a year. It should be once during the Dakshinayanam (July 15th to Jan 15th, the night time for the Celestials) & once in Uttarayanam (Jan 15th to July 15th, the day time for the Celestials). Perform Rudhra Abhishekam after finishing the Rahu Kethu Sarpa Dosha Nivarani Pooja.
Those who are uncomfortable or unable to perform rituals such as homas and japas, they can do this Rahu Ketu pooja which does not consists any Homa to be held but simply a thirty to forty minutes Manthroccharana (reciting Manthras) with flowers for two Naga (snake) Hoods before the deities of Rahu and Kethu regularly.
Perform the Rahu Kethu Pooja on an auspicious Muhurtham or on your Janma Nakshathra or normal good Nakshathra (stars) / lunar day.
Donating regional Cows (no to money), Naga Abharana (normally decorated on the Shiva Linga) also give good result. These are not compulsory but according to your financial position you may or may not. If done, it’s good.

    • Dear Vinay
Yes you can do rahu kethu pooja on any Sundays Rahu kalam. First perform archana to Lord Ganesha and then do the pooja.
Daily worship Lord Ganesha, Hanuman (or Tuesdays and Saturdays) and Datthathreya (or Thursdays).
      Om Namah Shiaya

  1. Hi Guruji,
Will they perform Kaalasarpa dosha nivaarana Pooja on Shrashti, on Friday the 24th of November 2017 at Kaalahasti?
My sister’s marriage is getting very much delayed and she has Kaalasarpa dosha. Her Date of Birth is 24/10/1987 @ 12.55PM. Please let us know when to perform Kaalasarpa dosha nivaarana Pooja at Kaalahasti.

    • Dear Lakshmikanth
Yes you can do rahu kethu pooja on sashti. Come to the temple 2 or 3 hours prior to the rahu kalam time, get ticket worship Lord Ganesha and then you can go the parihara sthala at Kalahasthi.
      Om Namah Shivaya.

  2. Swamiji I am concerned about her studies and career. So kindly tell me about her doshas and its remedies.

    • Dear Jaya Bhattacharya
There is no rahu kethu dosham but just rahu and kethu are neutrally placed and hence you can do the rahu kethu pooja on any thithits suchas Panchami, Sashti, Pournima or Amavasya.
      Om Namah Shivaya

  3. Dear swamiji My daughter’s d.o.b is 30.4.2003, Hyderabad, 6.28 a.m. she has rahu – ketu dosh or kalsarpa yoga? Puja at Kalahasti will help? Which day and at what time? Om namah shivay.

    • She has Budh-Aditya yoga in the 1st ‘house’ of a horoscope can favour the individual with name and popularity simultaneously with ‘professional success’ and numerous different things.
No malefic planets placed to disturb her studies but a slight aspect might reduce her intelligence if she does any wrong deeds during his high school and college studes. It may be because of Mercury.
So reciting Budha manthra is a beneficial one. –
      Budha remedies –
Worship Lord Vishnu by reciting Vishnu sahasranama stotra and perform a Fasting on every Wednesday. You can also do this on her part if she cannot recite the manthra, but make her sit beside you while praying.
Budha sthothram to be recited for 108 times daily or every Wednesdays –
( Priyangu Kalika Shyaamam Roopena Pratimam Budham
Soumyam Soumya gunopetam tam Budham Pranamamyaham. )
Rahu and kethu are placed well but even then doing rahu kethu pooja is a beneficial for her. So if you wish then perform the rahu kethu pooja for her.
Daily worship or Lord Ganesha, Hanuman is must. Take her to Hanuman temple on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
      Om Namah Shivaya

      • Thank you swamiji for guiding me.
*Can I recite Vishnu sahasranama and Buddha stothram in evening?
*I am reciting om gan ganpataye namah everydayfor 108 times and reading Hanuman chalisa once everyday. Is it correct or how should i worship lord Ganesha and Hanuman?
        * I will fast on behalf of her on Wednesdays.
        Om Namah Shivay

        • Dear Jaya Bhattacharya
Normally Lord Vishnu should be worshipped in the early morning and Lord Shiva in the evening as it the auspicious time.
For best result Vishnu sahasra naamam should be recited in the morning only. If it is not possible then you can worship Lord Vishnu by reciting OM NAMO SESHA SAYINE NAMAH for 108 times daily or every Saturdays.
Or you can recite sahasra namam on every Saturdays early morning. Finish this before sun rise time as it really does wonders. Need to do it if you wanna do it for your child.
Yes it correct and you proceed with that. If you really not able to spend time in the morning then you try reciting vishnu in the evening and try for his mercy.
          Yes fast on Wednesdays.

    • Dear Arun
No restriction of food. Just observe a fast on the day till you perform the pooja and no non veg for that day is enough. From next day you can go with your routine.
      Om namah Shivaya

Before marriage can I take my fiancé to perform Raghu kedhu pooja for myself ? Can we go to temple together for dosha nivarthi before marriage ? Please clarify !

    • Dear Jalma
While doing rahu kethu pooja one should attend with the whole family member (must) for best result. Along with them you can take your fiancé, no issue with this.
If your parents cannot come then you can go with your fiancé.
      Om Namah Shivaya

  6. Thank you very much Swamy ji

Can u please tell me how to perform shashti vrata and please tell me rahu manthra which my husband has to recite for 108 times.

    • Dear Nandini Manjunath
      Sashti vrath –
Clean you house in the early morning and all your family members have bath.
Offer flowers, prasadh – some fruits like banana etc, dhup dheep aarathi. Observe a fast from sun rise to sun set on the same day or next day sun rise.
If you think about breaking fast next day morning then you can intake one meal – in the afternoon or night but veg only or eat only fruits.
Prepare some Jaggery pongal offer the prasadh in any temple or at home before Lord Subrahmanya and perform abhishek or simple archana.
Come home and issue prasadh to a Brahman – if not available then to your known persons and then your family member and last you eat.
While offering the Prasad to lord you need to recite the Skhandha sashti kavach or Subrahmanya Bhujanga sthothram. Or if you are a house wife then you can read the Puranic stories of Lord Subrahmanya.
This is what how to do the fast – simple only. But staying fast is what matters.
Rahu Gayathri manthra for chanting –
Om Naakadhwajaaya Vidmahae Padma Hastaaya Dheemahi
      Tanno Raahu Prachodayaat
Rahu manthra for 108 times –
      Ardha-kayam mahim-viryam chandraditya-vimardanam
simhika- -garbha-sambhutam tam rahum pranamamy aham
      Om Namah Shivaya

  7. Thank you Swamy ji

Parihara pooja means how to do and where. Actually we performed sarpa samskara, ashlesha Bali and Naga pratishtapane in the year 2012 at kukke subramanya temple. Whether again we have to perform? My date of birth is 31.03.1986, time 1.55 p.m. on Monday. My husband’s date of birth is 17.09.1983, time 2.55 a.m. Friday night. Pls tell me what dosha we have in getting child. Pls help me.

    • Dear Nandini
Your husband has kaala sarpa dosham, bad mangal dosha matching (compatibility), some mismatch in the tem matching and hence this delay in getting a progeny.
Doing Naaga Prathishta and Bali pooja for once is enough but regularly you need to do the rahu kethu pooja or visiting and worship Naaga devatha temple is must.
Tell your husband to worship Lord Ganesha and Subrahmanya daily and raahu – reciting his manthra for 108 times daily or every Saturdays.
You Nandhini perform Sashti vrath on every sashti thithi that fall on every Shukla paksha thithi.
Perform Sathyanarayana vrath that remove sins of unknown that may turn positive to get a child also.
      Om Namah Shivaya
